Manage your phone
I found out about this cool new service on Lifehacker today. It’s called GrandCentral. In a nutshell, you get assigned a GC phone number to which you can assign other phone numbers in your life. Instead of handing out your home, business, and cell numbers willy-nilly, you just give people your GC number.
With GC’s web-based interface, you can direct how the calls should be handled. For example, say you’re waiting for an editor’s call and you don’t want to miss it when you run out to the store. Just program GC so her call goes to your cell number. Don’t have a separate business line? GC lets you keep your home number private. Don’t want to ever speak to a certain PR person again? Blacklist him through GC — his call gets tossed into a virtual trashcan. Moving for the third time in a two years? Your GC number stays constant, so no reprinting business cards or worrying if your editors have your most recent contact info.
I just signed up for the service, and so far it’s working great. Let me know what you think. [db]
