The Renegade Writer

A book brag

Yesterday I went into to Boston to meet up with some friends who were in town for Nieman. After hugs were shared and gossip exchanged, I pulled out my author copy of The Renegade Writer’s Query Letters That Rock. Truth told, I was nervous about showing it to them. One of them is in there, and it was the first time she’d be reading what her editor said about her query letter. Plus, she’s a stud in the journalism field. My other friend is a stud, too; she’s always flying off to exotic locales on assignment for magazines everyone‘s heard of. These two are, well, professionally intimidating.

So they started flipping through the book, reading bits and parts — okay, at one point, reading back my own words to contradict advice I’d given moments earlier, the tarts! — but then one of them said, “Hey, this is great! I just learned something!” And she wasn’t kidding. (She’s a bit of a saucy wench.) I think it came from one of the editors we’d quoted in book, an editor she happened to know.

It’s a total brag, but it was a nice to know even a well-established writer picked up something from the book. :-) [db]

As if I wasn’t already eagerly awaiting my copy! Now, I want it even more!

I loved “The Renegade Writer,” so I know “Query Letters…” will merit a prime spot on my desk, too.

    Thanks!
