RW Makeover: A Good Ending to a Bad Week

by Jennifer Applin

Well, actually in some ways it has been a bad month. We’ve had to replace our microwave, dryer, digital camera and then on Monday my computer died. Of course I had to fork out money to find out that my computer was shot and I needed to replace it. That was Monday morning and by Monday night my van had a flat tire and my new dryer quit working. Now if you fast-forward to the end of the week and add all of this frustration to my husband getting rear-ended and having to run out and buy a crib tent because my almost 2-year-old figured out how to climb out of the crib, well I’m sure you can see why I was ready to pull my hair out by Friday. (I know, whine, whine, whine)  But wait–it gets better. What do I find waiting for me in my mailbox? A copy of my first published article in print :-) One of my goals for November was to sell my first article. To accomplish this I decided to be a true renegade and break some of the rules. I e-mailed a completed article to many regional parenting publications simultaneously. Within a few hours of hitting the send button I sold my first article. Since these smaller publications just purchase one-time rights I have actually sold it to four of them. So seeing my first article in print on Friday was a good ending to an otherwise bad week. Way to go, Jen! Despite unreliable technological gadgets and a crafty toddler, you did it! Very inspirational.

I’m staring at a printer that went into the shop so long, I forgot my loaner was a loaner. Only to get the original one back and find it doesn’t work! Argh.

    Keep on keeping on!

Ugh, what a week indeed! But congrats on the articles — that must have been a thrill. :-)
