The Renegade Writer

Ask the Instructor

A new Renegade Writer e-course session is starting in September, and in order to help you get to know our instructors, we’ll be running an “Ask the Instructor” feature on the Renegade Writer blog. So far these three of our instructors are on board:

Pat Curry is teaching Building a High Paying Career with Trade Magazines.

Monica Bhide is teaching Introduction to Food Writing.

Elaine Grant is teaching Magazine Writing Basics.

If you have a question that related to any of these topics, send it to questions [at] therenegadewriter [dot] com and I’ll pass them along to the instructor, who will answer it on the blog.

Happy writing! [lf]

Just wondering if you’ve ever considered offering a course on writing for nonprofits. The term “nonprofit” can be quite misleading–I understand there’s money to be made, both writing and doing research for such groups.

  2. Debbi, good idea! Maybe we can look into that for next year.

That would be great! I’m just starting to get my feet wet in that particular field (I’ve done some grant writing and have an interest in branching out into other types of writing for NPOs, as well as research), and I’m working on a collaboration with someone who does consulting work for foundations and non-profits. I’d be interested in seeing more information become available on how to pursue this particular career path.

  4. I’m actually going to fold some information about writing for nonprofits (and all sorts of clients) into my Diversify Your Way to Success course (it starts October 8). The course won’t teach how-tos about specific kinds of writing (so no lessons on what goes into a white paper or a grant proposal) but I will discuss how you can put your current skill set to work in new-to-you areas and expand your freelance business. You can read more about the course at http://therenegadewriter.com/new-renegade-writer-classes/#jenna. Or, of course, feel free to post more questions here.

  5. Just an update for anybody considering my course mentioned above — I’m changing the start date — it was Oct. 8 and now…well, I’ll get back to you soon with that. But, of course, please post questions if you have any questions about the course content or any other Diversify Your Way to Success issues.
