Well, the troops have really mobilized over the last week for our freelancing colleague, Lori Hall Steele. Right after I posted last week, three amazing freelancers, Kristen Hains, Jane Boursaw, and Rachel Weingarten, put together a website for Lori’s cause.

I had suggested a blog-a-thon for Lori’s benefit and am thrilled so many of my writing colleagues are participating, including one of our own RW teachers. I thought Geoff Williams’ blog post about Lori’s plight was especially touching. We’ve got people working on a raffle and others who are tracking down filmmaker Michael Moore, since Lori copyedited one of his books for him, to see what he can do since healthcare in America is his latest windmill. Still others are taking time from their own busy schedules to track down attorneys, human services pros, and ALS support.

Lots of wonderful things are happening — and we’re still trying to raise as much money as we can for Lori. I’ve since learned that her medical bills are expected to top $120,000 (Geoff Williams’ blog post does a great job explaining the insurance angle).
