Calling all Anglophiles

After a lazy and stagnant summer workwise, I kicked myself in the butt last month and decided to tackle some projects on my to-do list. One of them was finishing the 3-week story idea workshop I wanted to teach through this site. Done!

Next was an idea I’ve had brewing for ages. I’m an incurable Anglophile, but I’ve never been able to find a website or blog to feed my addictions. I thought, Why not start one of my own? All hail Britannia! (The fabulous Reese of DesignbyReese did the header for me.)

If you’re fascinated with British food, culture, style, and/or history, do check it out. I’ve only had it live for a couple days and it’s definitely a work-in-progress, but it’s already getting some good traffic. If you prefer to read blogs through a feed reader, there’s a link up at the top of the main page to help you out. Thanks! [db]

    DB–
    Do you watch Eastenders?
I’ve been watching the show since i lived in England in the 80s and even switched my satellite company to DISH when BBC America stopped showing it. Now I pay $10 a month for the current episodes and watch it on PBS on Friday at midnight for the old episodes I’ve missed.

I am beyond obsessed. My husband keeps asking me what will I do if they decide to cancel all programming. I told him I’d move back to Oxford, of course! Duh! ;-)

That’s one of the shows I don’t watch, Mamabeah. I tend to go for the crime dramas like Prime Suspect and Wire in the Blood, the cooking shows, and news programs. My guilty pleasure are those all-day marathons of How Clean is Your House. My husband thinks Kim and Aggie are two of the most annoying people on earth; my 7-year-old loves them. (And *he’s* crazy about Dr. Who.)

Hi Diana, I’ll be checking in on your new blog with interest – I’m not an anglophile but I am English! I’m actually the opposite – an Americaphile? I hate most English TV and love US stuff, always want to go on holiday there, and follow US media with interest… maybe we should swap lives for a bit? ;)

Give me British television over American television any day! The comedies are so much better and the dramas are excellent as well. Have you seen Spooks? It’s a spy drama, and I’m totally addicted.

I’m a big fan of British authors as well, and actually try to schedule flights to the US on British Airways just so I can have a layover at Heathrow to stock up on books.

I’m definitely an Anglophile (and some of my best friends are British! :-P ).

Diane, I hope you saw my blog post re: the Christian Science Monitor’s name for people who admire American culture. (And hee, we could easily switch names, too!)

Liza, I hadn’t heard of “Spooks,” but figured out it’s “MI-5″ here in the U.S. Great show!

    Hi Diana,

It might be called MI-5 here in Israel as well, but I thought that was just the name it was given in English for the local market. I wonder why the changed the name for the US market as well.

It’s definitely one of my favorite shows, no matter what they choose to call it!
