Essay by Kelly James-Enger
Kelly James-Enger, a friend of mine and the author of Six Figure Freelancing and Ready, Aim, Specialize, wrote a great essay on her experience with open adoption for Chicago Parent.
Kelly has been a great help to my husband and me, as we’re adopting a baby boy who is due in December. Kelly and her husband, who live in Illinois, are hoping to adopt another baby. Please spread the word to anyone you know who lives there, and if you know of anyone looking to make an adoption plan for their unborn baby, e-mail Kelly at kelly@becomebodywise.com. Thanks! [lf]

Thanks for the info, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Hi Linda! We also adopted our daughter through a fully open domestic adoption. I’d like to encourage you to check out http://www.openadoptionsupport.com as a resource, too. It’s a site I set up after talking to Sharon Roszia (open adoption counselor and advocate in CA) about the need for more post-adoption support services, especially those that welcome all triad members.
Thanks for your congrats, Quinn!
Thanks, Dawn! I’ll check that out. We have chosen open adoption, so the more info the better.
What a beautiful essay by Kelly. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, a really wonderful essay. I love how she made the argument that it can be more difficult to explain the dynamics of non-adoptive families (half-siblings, different names, etc.) than explaining the relationship between a birth parent and a child. I’d never thought of it from that angle!
That’s one good essay. Well written and contructed, congrats to Kelly.
That was an incredible essay. It made me think about a lot of things.
