Sad news about Lori Hall Steele
I learned this morning that Lori Hall Steele, the gifted writer who’d been battling ALS or Lyme Disease, passed away yesterday at age 44. I know many of you gave generously to help save Lori’s home earlier this fall. As soon as I learn the address of where to send condolences to her family, I’ll let you know.
Last week I’d gotten an e-mail from one of my editors at a national magazine, who’d been trying to get hold of Lori — they wanted to buy an essay — and eventually found out about her health problems through our blog. I put her in contact with two writers who were close to Lori, and they got the word to her. It goes to show how wonderful a writer she was that an editor would go to such lengths to track her down.
My thoughts and prayers are with Lori’s son, mother, extended family, and friends today. [db]

for sure. I’m so sorry about this. Since I first learned about Lori and read her Washington Post essay, I’ve been moved and saddened by her situation, yet hopeful because of the amazing way so many writers came together to help. My prayers for her momma and her little boy.
This is so very sad. Sarah, you did a great job of expressing exactly how I feel about this.
Just ran across your blog spot. I’m sure you probably have found the address by now, but just in case you didn’t, Lori is from my hometown of Traverse City, Michigan. Here is the email of the local reporter who did the article. I’m sure she could forward for you. Her name is MARTA HEPLER DRAHOS.
