Writer — or member of Flock of Seagulls?
My husband found my old diary when he was cleaning out the garage today. On 12/20/84, at age 15, I wrote:
I want to become a famous writer. Actually, what’s in my heart is music. My true wish is to be in a very successful nu-wave group.
Well, I’m not famous but I’m glad I became a writer instead of a member of a nu-wave group. Otherwise today I’d be playing at Knott’s Berry Farm with bad 80s hair instead of sitting at home writing for pay. [lf]

Dec 5, 2008 Writing

This post makes me smile – in 1984, I was 17 and reviewed a Flock of Seagulls show (Agora Ballroom in Connecticut, anyone know it?)for my school paper, determined to become a music journalist. Ah, those were the days!
Ha – quite an image there, Linda.
LOL Linda, Your title had me expecting you’d posted a commentary on Twitter.
I was desperate to join Dexy’s Midnight Runners. I played violin and knew the band was my only shot at making it big in the rock world with my instrument of choice.
While I can’t cooment on what I did in 84′ (I was born in 86′), I was inspired by Linda’s post to think back to 02′ when I was 15, I wanted to write books. I would have loved to be a singer, but I thought book writing was more practical. I actually only discovered freelance writing this year when I was reading a book about women starting their own companys and came accross and interview with Linda that changed my life. Who knew magazines were written by people outside of their headquarters. Now, I’m still not published and still coming up with ideas for books, but I am really interested in doing short articles for magazines to. Sorry I digressed from the topic, love your blog though!
Joanne, I *totally* remember the Agora Ballroom. I’m pretty sure I saw the Ramones there.
Diana, I saw the Ramones at the Agora, too. A few times, actually. : )
