    I was surprised that more of the industry gurus did not address or at least explore the concept of the “pay wall.” Harry McCracken referenced it in passing, but that’s about it. While I am not always a fan of this model, I do think it is relevant and even necessary for very specific niche content providers. I also think it helps in the online branding of certain “old media” institutions that have traditionally experienced difficulty gaining traction on the web. “Free” doesn’t always mean “better.”
