The Renegade Writer

Recording of Ideas Teleclass Now Available Online

My free teleclass 5 Tips for Finding Ideas That Sell with Diana Burrell two weeks ago was a hit! We had more than 50 writers on the line. Thanks to everyone who showed up and asked their great questions.

For those of you who couldn’t make it, I recorded the teleclass. The recording is now available to listen to online here. This recording will be up for a limited time only, so don’t wait to listen!

I hope you enjoy it!

In other news, my next e-course session starts on Monday, July 19. My current session filled up fast, so don’t delay! And the next session of Diana Burrell’s e-course Become an Idea Machine starts on June 14.

Yesterday I heard from a former student, June Corrigan, that she just broke into Parenting magazine. She writes, “The best thing I learned from Write For Magazines was how to go about setting up an articulate query — the whole process — from writing a catchy lead-in paragraph, to lining up a source or two in order to bolster the query, to tempting an editor and showing him you actually have the goods!” Congratulations, June!

And now — it’s your turn!

In Write for Magazines, you’ll go through eight steps to generating a salable article idea, finding markets for it, sleuthing out the right editors to pitch, and writing and sending a query letter. Former students in this course have scored assignments in Spirituality & Health, Woman’s Day, Cottage Living, Black Health, E: The Environmental Magazine, Writer’s Digest, and other top-notch magazines.

In Get Unstuck! for Freelancers, you’ll learn how to become more productive, more organized, and more motivated — so you can get more work done in less time. I share my secrets to beating perfectionism, writing faster, streamlining your assignments, and more. I earn full-time income working only two days per week, so these tips definitely work for me!

Diana Burrell’s Become an Idea Machine will help you, well, generate salable ideas for magazines. The first week, you’ll learn several skills that’ll ensure you’ll never lack for ideas to write about. The following week you’ll begin to shape some of your ideas into stories that can sell. And then in the third week, you’ll learn how to target those ideas for appropriate markets. Once you’ve finished workshop, you’ll never panic again when an editor asks, “Got any other great ideas for me?”

Finally, if you want even more personalized help, I offer phone mentoring for writers. One recent client had been writing for free — and in less than 10 days after following my advice, she landed a $300 assignment, and she’s landed more since then. Here’s the mentoring page if you’d like to get started.
