Freelance Writer’s Blast Off–A New Group Coaching Program to Help You Break In and Earn More

I hope you got a lot out of the free teleclass on query letters I co-hosted with Carol Tice last week. It was great fun to do, and we had more than 90 writers on the line who asked some good questions.
In the meantime, I have something new to offer: group coaching. Carol Tice of the Make a Living Writing blog and I have set up a six-week Freelance Writer’s Blast Off group, which includes more than six hours of phone coaching and unlimited e-mail support to show you how to break into the freelance writing field and earn a good income. The first session starts on Tuesday, June 14. Phone sessions are every Tuesday at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.
Freelance Writer’s Blast Off is meant for new freelancers, but we do expect you to already be a skilled writer — we won’t be talking about grammar or style. What we WILL be talking about is:
Week one: Discover your gifts. We’ll have a 90-minute initial phone session to get to know each other and each writer’s goals. Our main topic will be how to identify your unique writing talents and experiences and then use them to find your best writing opportunities.
Week two: Your writer’s toolkit. We’ll look at participants’ writer websites and blogs and offer tips for making them into strong sales tools to help you land gigs.
Week three: Learn the marketplace. Linda and I will discuss all of the types of writing gigs available, and the differences between various publication and website types.
Week four: Develop your marketing strategy. You’ll get a primer on all of the marketing strategies that get good results, and come up with a plan for how you will promote your writing business.
Week five: Query week. We’ll provide tips for grabbing editors’ attention and getting the sale with query letters and letters of introduction (LOIs).
Week six: Managing your freelance writing business. We’ll talk time management, money management, how to negotiate rates — all the nuts and bolts of maximizing your earnings.
You’ll also get:
- A workbook that compiles the coaching materials into a handy format for compiling ideas and completing homework activities.
