Last year Linda and I acquired the publishing rights for our Renegade Writer series of books and they’re now published under a hot new publishing company called (drumroll) The Renegade Writer Press. Our book? Only your head will get fat, but in a good way. Query Letters That Rock contains actual query letters that sold to editors. And while there are Kindle books out there that are stuffed with query letters that supposedly sold, we’ve noticed a. the pitches were sold to publishers/magazines we’ve never heard of and suspect that don’t pay very well; b. the letters only give the letter-writer’s point of view.

In Query Letters That Rock, you’ll not only see what the writer has to say about his or her selling pitch, we got their editors to tell us why they bought the story and what made the letter a winner. When we wrote the book we thought it would be more valuable for writers to hear from editors — after all, they’re the ones who greenlight our stories.

On top of all this, our book is packed with queries that sold for big bucks to terrific markets like Parenting, Smithsonian, Women’s Health, AARP: The Magazine, mental_floss, and more.

Why are we pricing the book so low? Frankly, it irked us that there were other books on Kindle like Query Letters That Rock that weren’t very good — they contained query letters to obscure markets or were written by journalists/writers whose bylines we’ve never seen. But because their books were priced so low, they were flying off the virtual shelves.

Of course we want our book to fly off the virtual shelf too … but we’ve always been passionate about giving our readers the truth about freelancing and feel that these other books don’t do that. Ours does. And we’re willing to price our book so that more readers get the information they need to start querying with better results.
