In our book Query Letters That Rock, the editor explains what he likes about this query. But I do think it's a cultural distinction...we have a reader from Britain and she seems to gasp in horror at much of what we write here! :)

I am stymied by this query and why it rocks. I write for various UK publications and I'm a former Deputy Editor of a national magazine. Maybe this is a cultural distinction (Us/UK) but the query is way too long, it isn't clear what Andy is even pitching. Is this a cold call or is there a missing previous email where he pitches an initial idea to the Editor and this is a follow-up? I assume he is known to the Editor or he would introduce his himself in a short paragraph with a few published credentials? What am I not getting about this query, which if it dropped into my inbox, would get deleted PDQ- please explain!
