It’s one of the scariest things you’ll ever do: making that decision to go from the (apparent) security of being someone’s employee to calling your own shots as a freelance writer. I know, because I’ve done it. The rewards are fantastic, but it can be a stressful journey to get there.

Luckily for us, Linda Formichelli has written a pragmatic, thorough guide that will make it less scary. It covers the practical stuff (money, work habits, how you’ll find clients) as well as the many challenges that come when you move out of your emotional comfort zone. It’s a terrific resource, and I wish I’d had it back when I first took the leap.

I May Just Be Crazy

The price for all this goodness — a full-length e-book chock full of information that will help you live your dream, plus free downloads?

Why am I charging this crazy-low price — especially when any writers have told me they’d be happy to pay $20 or more?

Because I don’t just want to sell a few books here and there. I want to start a Leaving the Rat Race Revolution.

I want to get this book into the hands of every single person who’s ever thought of leaving their boring job to live the life of a freelance writer. My goal is to make it a no-brainer for anyone who is interested in making the leap from employed to self-employed to buy this book.

For such a low price, you may be expecting a hastily-written, crappily-designed book that I just threw onto the net. Not so. Write Your Way Out of the Rat Race…And Step Into a Career You Love is a carefully-developed book with professional writing, layout, design, and editing. I shelled out a metric boatload of money to develop this book, because I believe every aspiring writer deserves a well-made instruction manual.

If you’d like to write for a living, Linda’s practical and fun guide helps you navigate the journey from someday dream to your Monday morning reality.

Who the Heck Am I to Tell You How to Become a Writer?

I left an über-boring office job (where I spent hours per day playing Minesweeper) to become a full-time freelance writer in 1997. Since then, I’ve written for 150 magazines — including Redbook, Writer’s Digest, Inc., and USA Weekend“and more than two dozen copywriting and content writing clients, including Pizzeria Uno, Bay State Gas, Sprint, and OnStar.

I’m the co-author of the cult classic The Renegade Writer: A Totally Unconventional Guide to Freelance Writing Success and The Renegade Writer’s Query Letters That Rock, and run the Renegade Writer Blog, four-time winner of the Top 10 Blogs for Writers award. I’m the Other Den Mother at the Freelance Writers Den, offer mentoring for writers, and teach several e-courses.

I live in the Raleigh area with my husband, who’s the News Editor at BoardGameGeek.com, our first-grader son, and our exchange student.

Talk to just about any bigshot writer about how they got started, and you get the same story: months or years of beating their head against the wall, followed by a gradual process of finally “getting it” and their career taking off.

And in my opinion, nothing can change that. You can, however, speed up how fast you “get it.” “Write Your Way Out Of the Rat Race” will help you do that, giving you a blueprint of exactly what you need to do and when to make your dream a reality.
